The soft muddy ground is surrounded by shallow murky rivers on all three sides. It's a fairly big piece of land, considering most of the land in the area is no more than a few hundred yards across.
The land is a mile wide and two miles long, sparsely covered with trees, and the ground with ferns. The ground is crawling with all sorts of amphibians, reptiles, and even primitive mammals.
The rivers surrounding this island of land have crocodiles, and are not for smaller animals to go wondering in for too long. The island is a great place for herbivores as there is a lot of low-lying vegetation and upper-level vegetation as well. A predator has a harder time surviving due to all the different types of carnivores competing for the same resources. Scavenging during the wet season when all the reptiles are laying their eggs is a very good opportunity.
(OOC: Just so people won't wonder, anywhere, crocodiles will not attack everytime someone goes up to the water.)
