Okay, assuming that you've read the rules, now you're ready to start reading about the game play. This is thread is to help you get organized and see in what time period you'll be playing in and all that good stuff. There will be three periods of time, and in each of those periods, there will be either just pangea, or Laurasia and Gandwana. We'll use those instead of their presant day names. So instead of stalling anymore we'll jump right to it.
The periods of time.
There will be three time periods as stated, the triassic, jurassic and cretaceous, yes, in that order. The dinosaur you want to play was will only be found in one of those, and in EXTREMELY rare cases, two, but that's only rare. I'll offer a little detail into what was going on during the different periods of time.
Triassic Period - Pangea was still in the process of being broken up by plate techtonics. It had a continental climate, with an extremely hot and dry summer, with a cooler winter. The seasons were determined by yearly monsoons that would start in one hemisphere and go over to the other. The main habitats are sparsly vegitated deserts with ginko trees growing in clusters few in and far between.
Jurassic Period - The continent Pangea had already started to break up into Laurasia and Gondwana. Although the differentiation between life between these two wasn't that major between these two now, it would play a major role later on in the cretaceous period. Although (for game sake) the climate in Laurasia was very seasonal, being determined by rain storms and monsoons. The habitats being seasonal flood-plains, forests, tropical rain forests, deserts, swamps, and estuarries. In Gondwana, it was similar to Asia. Being warm, troprical and in some places only temperate. The habitats found here are similar to those in Laurasia.
Cretaceous Period - The continents of Laurasia and Gondwana had broken up during the cretaceous period. Although the continental positions were far from their original positions, they were very slowly starting to resemble them. In Laurasia the climate had become a bit more stable. Rains and storms in general were common. Things didn't happen so much by the seaons as it was just by regular intervals. The main habitat in this time and place are vast forests seperated by desolate barren strips of land due to the valcanism. Swampland was also very common as well as the volcanic ash saturated with water and the lava rock didn't allow water to get through, creating marshes and swamps that dotted the land scap. In Gondwana the climate is still very seasonal, where life is determined by when the rains come. The habitats are also more varied as well, including deserts, mangrove swamps, tropical rain forests, forests, and flood plains.
Now bare in mind that certain dinosaurs can only live in certain times and also certain subcontinents. Now with certain species and on certain sub-continents in certain times you won't have be as restricted. You're restrictions will be private messaged to you. Make sure you keep track of them though. Although they'll be pretty easy to follow with each of the species though.
